The Evergreens — The Art of Faithful Aging
Moving from aging to saging, the Evergreens are part of the Senior Ministry at Bethel. We seek to enrich the second half of life by making deeper spiritual connections through opportunities which provide service to others, self-expression, meaningful work, and close friendships. We hope to be good stewards of this wonderful gift of life God has given us in all of its dimensions, physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Interactive programs emphasize the art of faithful aging by encouraging persons to share life wisdom by teaching each other from the lifetime of experiences they have gained. We provide tools to leave a spiritual legacy by writing or telling life stories through audio/visual recordings and writing an ethical will, as well as the more traditional legal legacy of wills and trust. We also raise questions about life's meaning as we face life changes, personal growth and developing skills to handle the changes that occur. These include a variety of health-education and preventive healthcare programs.
Evergreens celebrate these gifts of extra years by recognizing the deeper meanings in later life events. Come join us from 10:30am to 12:30pm for spiritual growth programs, followed by lunch and fellowship in the Fireside Room the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month, with the exception of special holiday events, such as the Thanksgiving Dinner (November) and Christmas Party (December).
If you are interested in presenting a program, providing a lunch, or attending Evergreens, contact Kaye Kuhlmann.

Moving from ageing to Sageing. Evergreens is a part of the Senior Ministry at Bethel Lutheran Church which is being modeled on the Shepherd Center's mission that seeks to enrich the later years of our members and members of our community for deeper spiritual connections with opportunities which provide service to others, self expression, meaningful work and close friendships. We hope to be good stewards of this wonderful gift of life God has given us in all of its dimensions, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Life Maintenance programs are practical services that enable older persons to safely remain in their homes while growing more frail. Typical services include arranging transportation, telephone reassurance, Stephen Ministry and pastoral calls. Life recognition offers specific kinds of sessions that help persons grapple with life changes, personal growth and developing skills to handle the changes that occur. These include a variety of health-education and preventive health-care programs. Questions are raised about life's meaning. Persons are encouraged to find meaning by helping others in various ways from volunteer roles to new career paths. Life Celebration is a general program helping to recognize the deeper meaning in later life events. Persons are encouraged to write or tell their life stories, to write Ethical Wills, and share meaningful models and memories of their life. Come join us from 10:30 to 12:30 for spiritual enchantment and interesting programs, followed by luncheon and fellowship in the Fireside Room. We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month except the following special holiday months. In April we meet on the 17th, Maundy Thursday Communion Luncheon, November we meet on the 20th for Thanksgiving Dinner, and in December we meet on the 18th for a Christmas Party.
