Pack 411 Cub Scouts
Cub Scouts is a national program for boys in
the first to fifth grades. Cub Scouts
is a family oriented program, that teaches skills and ideals to the boys in
four areas – Duty to God, Country, Family and self. Bethel Lutheran Church is the chartering organization of Cub
Scout Pack 411, which draws from the John Muir, Meyerholz and Christa McAuliffe
school areas. The Pack currently has 70 families enrolled in the program, and
has a very active schedule.
Our Pack’s mission is "To continually be
one of the premier Packs in our District and Council". We measure that
goal based on the quality of our program, the number of boys reached and our
participation in District and Council events.
We have had a great program year so far, and since September have had
monthly Pack meetings stressing the values of citizenship, duty to God and
service to others, guest speakers, Scout-O-Rama participation, Coyote Creek
Bike Trek (12 and 25 mile routes), ice skating party, Pinewood Derby, scouting
for food, creek cleanup for the portion of Calabazas Creek we have adopted,
popcorn sale (our one and only fund-raiser) and musical performance night. For the rest of this year, our plans include
a Scout Sunday observation, Blue & Gold banquet, participation in Council
Pow-Wow adult training, two overnight trips on the USS Pampanito (we have too
many boys for one outing), a second creek cleanup, raingutter regatta, day
camp, family overnight camp, Webelos resident camp and our annual beach
barbecue.
Our Pack has been an active contributor to
our District and Council, and this year we have won the National Summertime
Pack award, National Quality Unit award, Council participation awards for
Scout-O-Rama and Scouting For Food, Polaris District 5 Star Award and Polaris
District Commissioner’s award.
Financially we contributed twice our goal to the national Friends of
Scouting campaign and were the top selling Pack in our district for
popcorn. We have contributed leadership
to the monthly district roundtable training program and volunteers to the
council bike trek. By these measures we
feel that we have reached our goal of being one of the premier Packs of our
area again this year.
There are three groups who work on delivering
the program to the boys, the parents of the boys, the chartering organization
and the Boy Scouts of America. The
boys’ families’ role is to deliver the program for their boys. The chartering organization and the Boy
Scouts of America help to bring continuity to the program by ensuring that the
facilities and training programs are in place for incoming families. Any members who would be interested in
assisting in these roles should contact Pack 411’s Chartering Organization
Representative Jim Hooper (408) 996-1656 or Pack Cubmaster Charlie Schrey (408)
725-8930.
