This class meets on three consecutive Sundays - March 30th, April 6th and April 13th, 2003. Bethel's First Communion Class is designed specifically for anyone in 4th through 6th grade who is ready to begin receiving Holy Communion and desires “basic training.” However, there is no “age requirement” for these classes. We will have both older and younger kids attend each class. If you’re wondering if your child is ready, simply ask them if they know Jesus and if they know they need him in their lives. If the answer comes back “yes” to both questions and you, as parents, feel comfortable, your child is eligible to go through the classes. You don’t have to be a member of Bethel or any other Lutheran church to participate. Each of the three class sessions are 55 minutes in length. The hallmark of these classes is the Traditional Seder Meal that will occur as part of Kid Connection on April 13th. This is an important experiential learning moment that will help your child develop a deeper understanding of the origins of the Lord’s Supper. If you wish, your child could complete the First Communion Class on April 13th and then proceed directly to the 11:00 worship service to receive his/her first communion that same day. One or both parents are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to attend both sessions. The reason for this is simple: we want you to be able to answer your child’s inevitable questions about Holy Communion when you get in the car for the ride home from the classes.
