Relive the days of the turn of the century (the 1900’s, that is!) when steam trains crisscrossed all throughout the Santa Cruz Mountains during the redwood lumber boom. Roaring Camp Railroad boasts several authentic, narrow-gauge steam locomotives that guide tourists up through the forested hills on a 75 minute journey. You’ll cross over several wooden trestles, through redwood groves, and maybe even spot some wild animals along the way. The 10:30am train is already sold out for the 18th; still available trains are Noon and 1:30pm. It is strongly recommended that you purchase train tickets in advance online at Roaring Camp’s website: https://www.roaringcamp.com/ You will be responsible for your own train tickets. Masks are required at all times for indoor facilities, and while riding aboard enclosed train carriages. A light jacket is also suggested. If the quiet and solitude of communing with nature is more your thing, strolling through Henry Cowell Redwood State Park will be right up your alley! A 0.8 mile flat loop trail will guide you past some of the oldest redwood trees in the state, including the largest, which is 1,500 years old and 277 feet tall! The Visitor Center has printed, self-guided brochures, as well as an audio tour that you can download. There is Poison Oak along the trails, so be careful where you roam. Sunscreen is strongly recommended for both events, as well as buy spray. Also, bring a picnic lunch or walk into downtown Felton and enjoy one of the delightful, small eateries.
