Join us the first Wednesday of the month (Oct - May) for special topics and guest speakers. Invite friends! Each session will end with a Q&A time and sweet and savory refreshments. (Check here for updates on Speakers) April 1 - Angie Lux was involved with our youth group several decades ago and now is a leading voice in Earthquake awareness and preparedness. We often feature an environmental themed presenter and this is so relevant for all of us in the Bay Area these days. Dr. Angie Lux is a seismologist at the Berkeley Seismology Lab. She received her bachelor's degree in geophysics from UC Berkeley in 2007 and her doctorate in geophysics from Stanford in 2014. Her doctoral thesis explored the use of low-cost MEMS accelerometers (the same motion sensors that are in cellphones) as cheap seismometers. She traveled to Chile and New Zealand following major earthquakes to distribute sensors and record the many aftershocks. Dr. Lux has been working at the BSL since 2014 where she leads the development of one of the ShakeAlert Earthquake Early Warning algorithms.
