Bethel’s New Logo
The church council and church staff undertook a special project to express how we do life together in a new logo.
We understood that our main identity is found in the cross of Jesus, but could we find a cross that helps visualize who we are?
A cross that speaks of the openness of Bethel…
The joy of Bethel…
The community in Christ of Bethel…
A cross that speaks to future generations and to those on the outside yet shows we are rooted to historic traditions.
We are a church that understands that we do life together in two ways:
- Our life in Christ revolves around the historic church calendar
- Our core values
In one year, we experience the entire of life of Jesus:
Advent: we are expecting and welcoming a King. Blue is the color of this season because blue is a royal color.
Royalty
Welcoming
Christmas and Epiphany: we celebrate the birth of Jesus who is revealed to the world. White or gold is the color of this season because white and/or gold symbolizes the purity and holiness of Christ.
Purity
Claims Us
Lent: this season reminds of us Jesus’ passion and death. We take extra time to focus in on this most important work of Jesus. The color of this season is purple which reflects both Jesus’ royalty as the King of kings and his suffering and death.
Passion
Disciplines
Easter: we turn back to the colors of gold and white to remember our King is pure, holy and victorious in his resurrection. It is in Easter that we know that we are forgiven and adopted into the family of God.
Purity
Claims Us
Pentecost: we remember the work of the Holy Spirit and the sign of the flames over the individuals of the early Church. The color of this day is red to remember the power of the Holy Spirit in our lives. Reformation Sunday is also a time to remember the Holy Spirit acting in the life of the Church.
Fire
Action
Ordinary Time: which is truly an extraordinary season. It is time we remember the life and ministry of Jesus. It is a time of growth and we use the color green to symbolize that fruitful abundance of Christ’s ministry.
Fertile
Abundance
Christ the King Sunday: We remember the promise of Jesus that he will one day return to gather his Church to be with him forever. Once again we use white and gold to express the holiness and purity of Christ.
Purity
Claims Us
Our core values define how we are “doing life together” at Bethel:
Hospitality: we welcome others and treat them like royalty in the same way we prepare to welcome Jesus in the season of Advent.
–Welcoming
Christ Centered Community: we value our relationship with Jesus and each other as a church family because we are claimed by Christ and belong to each other. Christmas, Easter and Christ the King Sunday remind us that through the power of God we have been adopted into God’s royal family.
–Claimed
Spiritual Growth: God desires for us to grow in all relationships with Jesus and each other. Lent reminds us we should take extra time to focus on our relationship with Christ and possibly build new spiritual disciplines into our life.
–Disciplines
Responding to Needs of Others: The Holy Spirit inspires us to help others in need. As Christ cares for us, we have been called to care for others. As the Holy Spirit birthed the Church on Pentecost and radically changed the Church in the Reformation, the Spirit inspires us today to help others.
–Action
Generosity: God is an extravagant giver. God even gave us a Savior. As we remember the fertile abundance and generosity of Christ’s ministry in the season of Ordinary Time and in our lives, we respond through generous giving of our time and resources.
–Abundance
