Barb Larsen
Children’s Choir Director
September 2010
Barbara Larsen’s passion for music and teaching truly come together in her role as Children’s Choir director. A member of Bethel since 1978, she took over the children’s choir reins in 1990 and has seen more than 100 children between 2nd and 6th grade experience the joy of praising God through song.
Barbara’s enjoyment of music began early: she has sung in church choirs since high school. She’s been a member of the Choristers Guild for nearly 20 years, which has introduced her to a variety of music and experiences, including hosting the 2010 Choristers Guild Children’s Choir Festival at Bethel.
Barbara’s musical background is versatile. In addition to singing, she is the principal flutist in the San Jose Wind Symphony, teaches private flute lessons out of her home, and is the band and recorder instructor at a nearby private Christian school.
As a credentialed teacher, Barbara strives to provide a variety of age-appropriate activities for Children’s Choir members. A typical rehearsal often includes music-related games and rhythm instruments in addition to having fun learning songs about how great God is. Beyond singing in church services, Barbara likes to provide special musical opportunities for the choir, such as giving concerts at nearby SunnyView Retirement Community.
